Who? What? When? Where? Why?

Who is this camp for?

InterACT camp is for any young person interested in any aspect of drama: theatre, film or television. All students are grouped in classes according to the grade they will be entering this fall.  Now in our 15th season, InterACT Studio, Inc. opened in 1998 and is dedicated to offering opportunities for young people to explore and develop their talent and to provide an outlet for creative expression. Building self-esteem, developing communication and socialization skills, and becoming a better-informed arts patron are a few of the outcomes targeted by InterACT.

Frequently Asked Questions?

Do you go on any field trips?
No.  InterACT travels lots of places but only in our imaginations!  In Florida it's too darned hot to get out and go anywhere.  Besides, we have so much to do and such a great, fun staff that we don't want to miss any of the creative and original things we experience at camp.

Who are the Instructors?
Our staff is lead by theatre professionals and certified teachers, many of whom return year after year.  Several have been with us for a decade or more.  They all know how to share their knowledge and experience with young people.  With a professional staff of at least 10 adult teachers, several trained college-age instructors, plus our counselor-in-training program, InterACT maintains a camper/staff member ratio of about 5 to 1!

How many weeks should we plan to attend?
InterACT is designed for active students who come and go throughout the summer.  Each week is similar in design but different in many ways.  It is the nature of many theatre games and activities that they change every time depending on the growth and development of the participants.  Boredom is not in our curriculum!  Design the schedule that suits you and enjoy the summer.  One of the best things about InterACT is meeting new friends who share your interest in drama.

Do we pack our own lunch and snacks?
That's up to you.  You can bring your lunch or you can order lunch for the week every Monday - pizza, subs, salads and more.  We also have our own concession stand.  A Lunch Order Form will be posted online a few weeks before camp beings.

Isn't it a long day being there from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.?
Not for us.  Ask other campers and parents and you'll find that the day is full of energy and activity, but if someone's batteries are running a bit low, they can rest and recharge while watching everybody else knock themselves out.  (The first hour of the day is for gathering, socializing, or putting in some extra work on a project.  Then we get going with everybody's favorite - physical and vocal warm-ups!)  The day usually ends with everyone in the theatre for a special presentation or performance.

Do you put on a show?

At InterACT we focus on the individual child rather than putting on one big show.  However, students may choose to participate in a Weekly Showcase held in the Theatre at The Weiss School every Friday afternoon.  The show begins promptly at 4:00 p.m. featuring students in Premiere and Act One.  InterACT! offers students in Acts Two, Three and Encore an even more intensive experience geared toward the dramatic product and performance. Their work is also showcased and video highlights are presented.

Theme Weeks Schedule at InterACT Summer Theatre Camp 2012

We are often asked “Is there a particular week we should come?”

Every week at InterACT is different and every week is the same.  It’s the same because we routinely create something different that can only come from this serendipitous combination of students and instructors.  Everyone on staff comes to do what they do best.  Every camper is encouraged to be at their very best and to make discoveries about themselves.

Yes, we have Water Day, Halloween Day and Disney Day and Bad Hair Day, but we never know what week is the right week to have those days until we get there.  Our talented staff meets daily to shape and create the best InterACT experience using the ingredients that we have that once-in-a-lifetime week.  It’s part of what sets us apart and makes us who we are.

But we know that parents want to know things and plan for their child to have the very best that the world has to offer.  So – by popular demand – we are publishing our Theme Week Schedule for InterACT Summer Theatre Camp 2012.

Week 1: June 11 – June 15    Spontaneous Week

Week 2: June 17 – June 21    Spur-of the Moment Week
